    Why only synchronous generators are used for generating electricity? Why asynchronous or induction generators are not used?

    Query Resolver

    You see we’re electrically connected through Grid system. The voltages and frequencies from various Power Plants are maintained and made equal at Grid level.

    We in India use 4 pole Synchronous Generators which runs at the synchronous Speed of 1500 RPM.

    Now from the equation of Synchronous Speed, we get-

    Ns= 120×f / p (RPM)

    Where,

    Ns= Synchronous Speed,

    f= Frequency,

    p= No. poles.

    ∴ f= Ns×p / 120

    f= 1500 × 4 / 120

    f= 50 Hz

    As we use Synchronous Generators it helps to maintain equal frequency across the whole power system network. Which Asynchronous Generators failed to maintain.

    Hope this answer satisfied your queries. Any doubt is most welcome.
