    Two basic parts of a DC machine may be stated as a Stator and a Rotor. But, only these two parts do not make a working DC machine. There, are many essential parts such as yoke (stator), field poles, armature (rotor), winding etc. You can learn more about construction of a DC machine at this link.

    I agree with Er. Kiran that STATOR and ROTOR are basic parts of any motor. But I think COMMUTATOR and BRUSH differentiate DC motor from others.
